Micrograms and milligrams describe mass. Milliliters describe volume. Converting between mass and volume requires a concentration such as mg/mL.
Convert micrograms and milligrams first
Divide micrograms by 1,000 to get milligrams. Multiply milligrams by 1,000 to get micrograms. Keep the unit beside every intermediate value.
- 100 mcg = 0.1 mg.
- 250 mcg = 0.25 mg.
- 500 mcg = 0.5 mg.
- 1,000 mcg = 1 mg.
Use concentration to reach milliliters
If concentration is 2.5 mg/mL, a mathematical 0.25 mg amount corresponds to 0.1 mL because 0.25 ÷ 2.5 = 0.1.
Convert milliliters to U-100 units last
Multiply milliliters by 100 only after dose volume has been calculated. In the example, 0.1 mL becomes 10 U-100 units.
