On a U-100 insulin syringe, 100 marked units correspond to 1 milliliter. The unit marks are therefore a convenient way to describe small liquid volumes.
- 1 unit = 0.01 mL.
- 10 units = 0.1 mL.
- 30 units = 0.3 mL.
- 50 units = 0.5 mL.
- 100 units = 1 mL.
Capacity and concentration are different
A 30-unit syringe and a 100-unit syringe can both use a U-100 scale, but they have different maximum volumes. Selecting capacity lets the calculator flag a result that does not fit.
Read the actual device
Mark spacing can vary by syringe. A calculated decimal unit may not align with a measurable graduation on the device in hand. Verify the syringe packaging and markings.
